Trainspotting The Musical reveals full cast ahead of London premiere this July

Full casting has been announced for Trainspotting The Musical as it heads to the Theatre Royal Haymarket

Trainspotting The Musical begins performances in London this summer, and full casting has been revealed ahead of its world premiere at Theatre Royal Haymarket. Opening 15 July, the musical previously announced that it would star Robbie Scott in his West End debut as Renton. Joining him will be Sheridan Townsley as Sick Boy, Kieran Andrew as Spud, Frankie O’Connor as Begbie, Finlay Paul as Tommy, Rebecca McKinnis as Cathy Renton, Gordon Cooper as Davie Renton, Ashley J. Russell as Colleen, Rosie Dignan as Alison, Yana Harris as Kelly, and Sophie Hutchinson as Lizzie.

The ensemble will feature Ally Kennard, Kieran Brown, Melanie Marshall, Lewis Kidd, Samuel Stewart, Finlay McKillop, Ciara Ennis, Victoria Nicol, Kyra Fyvie, and Chris O’Mara.

Trainspotting The Musical features a book written by Irvine Welsh and songs by Welsh and Stephen McGuinness alongside tracks from the original film. As in Welsh’s original novel, the show follows a group of addicts and misfits in Edinburgh, as Renton struggles to get clean and get out.

Caroline Jay Ranger will direct and develop the production alongside associate director Denise Ranger. Set and costume design is by Colin Richmond, with lighting design by Ian Scott, video design by Douglas O’Connell, and sound design by Rory Madden for Sonalyst. Stuart Morley is musical supervisor, orchestrator and music director. Christina Andrea is choreographer and additional movement director, and Anne Vosser is casting director.

The world premiere of the new musical marks 30 years since the release of the 1996 film of the same name, starring Ewan McGregor as Renton.

Welsh said of the casting news, “I believe the musical has a bigger, loudly beating human heart than either the book or the film. People need to think about the world we’re living in, and we offer that inspection, but they also need to sing their hearts out and laugh their heads off. It’s what being human is all about. We’ve put together an incredible Scottish cast and I can’t wait to see them bring the musical to life.”
