Eight half term shows to keep the whole family entertained this May
Half term just got a whole lot easier to plan, with some of favourite shows promising to keep everyone entertained right through to June.
We’ve rounded up eight of the best family events to pick up tickets for today, because who said the school holidays were only fun for the kids?
Bend it Like Beckham
Gurinder Chadha’s hotly anticipated show begins its residency at London’s Phoenix Theatre this week, so you’ll want to hit up this West End production before everyone in the playground is raving about it.
The Play That Goes Wrong
With a laugh factor reminiscent of Fawlty Towers, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society have crafted a 1920s murder mystery that can only end in stitches. As the title suggests, everything that can go wrong… pretty much does, that’s aside from making you lol.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Somehow, Sam Mendes has captured the magic of the big screen and transferred it onto a West End stage with more success than you imagine possible. The ideal family show; Willy Wonka balances the silly with the sweet perfect.
Matilda the Musical
Few things top a family outing centred around one of Roald Dahl’s most classic tales. The Cambridge Theatre production has long been marked as a must-see for all ages, and we couldn’t agree more.
The Pirates of Penzance
Sentimental pirates, blundering policeman, absurd adventures and improbable paradoxes – Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance will be keeping the half term entertainment sailing on at the London Coliseum.
Geronimo Kids Festival
The north’s west biggest children’s festival returns to Tatton Park this May bank holiday. With hundreds of activities for children aged from two to twelve, and a host of popular characters like CBeebies’ Mr Bloom scheduled to appear, family fun is at the heart of this three-day event.
The Railway Children
Damian Cruden’s production still packs more wow-moments than you can begin to imagine at first. Still showing during half term, just head for the purpose-built, 1,000 seat theatre pitched up next to King’s Cross station. You can’t miss it…
Moscow State Circus
The Moscow State Circus returns to the UK with its latest and greatest production to date, Zhelaniy, based on the Russian folklore story of Cvetik-Semicvetik by Benjamin Losin. One of most famous circus productions on the planet, it’ll leave the whole family fascinated.
