Kids & Family Round-up: Summer 2022

All the best family events happening this summer, from jaw-dropping West End shows to days out with everyone's favourite characters


If you’re a parent, then you don’t need us to remind you that the start of the summer holidays is approaching – you likely have the date circled on your calendar in ominous red ink. Whilst the kids are waiting with bated breath for school to let out, you’re staring down the barrel of six long weeks and thinking, “How on earth am I supposed to fill all that time?”

Luckily there’s plenty going on this summer to hold even the shortest of short attention spans. From huge shows like Disney’s Frozen and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, to unforgettable days out with their favourite characters at The Nickelodeon Experience and PAW Patrol Live!: Race To The Rescue, filling up that calendar won’t be a problem. Chances are you’ll wind up wishing they were off for even longer than six weeks. Alright, maybe that’s pushing it…

Peppa Pig: My First Concert

It’s never too early to introduce your kids to the joy of live music. Peppa Pig: My First Concert guides little ones through an orchestral experience in which they explore the sounds made by different instruments, enjoy familiar songs and discover classical pieces. The Nickelodeon Experience

The unmissable family event brings together a ton of different Nickelodeon shows for one huge immersive experience. Under 7s can enjoy themed adventures with characters such as SpongeBob, the PAW Patrol Pups, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, whilst older siblings up to the age of 14 can challenge themselves in The Thundermans’ School For Superheroes, Henry Danger’s Cave and the Hunter Street Escape Room. There’s even a chance to get slimed. Tour begins 6 Jul in Edinburgh

PAW Patrol Live!: Race To The Rescue

When Mayor Goodway goes missing during the day of the Great Adventure Bay Race, the pups must come to the rescue. You and the family can join them on their action-packed musical adventure as they tour the UK this summer. Kicking things off in Aberdeen on 26 July, PAW Patrol Live will travel to 15 different cities, playing an exciting final three nights at London’s OVO Arena, Wembley. Fans of the show will love watching the story unfold in front of them. Various UK locations, 26 Jul – 3 Sept

Disney’s Frozen

The hugely beloved animated film hits the stage at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, with all the songs you know and love and some West End magic that has to be seen to be believed. When her sister Elsa accidently curses their kingdom, Anna sets off on a quest to save Arendelle, help Elsa and learn the meaning of true love. Despite the wintery setting, this spectacular production is packed full of music, laughter and awe-inspiring visuals that make it the perfect summer treat. Disney’s The Lion King

Quick summer trip to the plains of Africa, anyone? After over twenty years onstage, The Lion King has become a West End staple. Simba will one day be king of the Pride lands and is busy learning everything he can from his father, Mufasa – as well as getting into trouble with his best friend, Nala. When tragedy strikes, Simba has to rely on his own courage and resilience to set things right. Horrible Histories – Terrible Tudors

History with the nasty bits left in. Kids will love this hilariously grisly trip into the past, whizzing through armadas, executions, and a whole lot of Henries. Silly, spooky and surprisingly educational, this is a great way to keep them learning in the holidays with no risk of anyone getting bored. Now playing until 3 Sept at the Garrick Theatre, London

Mary Poppins

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

One of the nation’s favourite novels comes to the West End this summer in the form of an unforgettable new production. When Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter are evacuated from wartime London, they find a whole new world in the wardrobe of their new home and are whisked away on an incredible adventure. Starring Samantha Womack as the White Witch, this huge new show will delight audiences of all ages. Opens 18 Jul at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London

Room On The Broom

The bestselling Julia Donaldson book is now a magical stage show, adapted for theatregoers aged 3 and up. Follow the witch and her cat as they track down lost belongings with the help of some new friends and figure out how to make room on the broom for everyone. This new production comes from the same team that brought Donaldson’s The Gruffalo to life with great success. Lyric Theatre, London, 21 Jul – 4 Sept

Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever!

A new live show for Peppa Pig fans young and old, this production follows Peppa on a special adventurous day out with George, Mummy Pig and Daddy Pig. With music, games and a whole lot of fun, there’s plenty of ways for theatregoers of all ages to engage. Peppa Pig’s Best Day Ever! will visit Dunfermline, St Albans and Salford Quays this summer. If you can’t make it, don’t worry – the production will make further stops at locations across the UK all throughout autumn, finishing with a December residency at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket. Blippi the Musical

An exciting stage show based on the popular educational children’s channel, Blippi the Musical features thirteen original songs, new friends and tons of interesting discoveries for kids aged 2-6.
