David Rudisha confirmed for Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix

British Athletics have confirmed David Rudisha’s appearance at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix this June.

The Olympic champion, and 800m world record holder, will return to British soil this summer, following his unforgettable win at the London 2012 Olympics. Rudisha bagged the gold in unforgettable fashion three years ago, setting a new world record of 1:40:91.

“I love competing in the UK and I can’t wait to line up at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix,” the Kenyan athlete said. “I have good memories of winning over 600m in Birmingham last summer and of course setting the world record at the London 2012 Olympics.

“Hopefully I can repeat that sort of form against what I’m sure will be a very strong field in June.”

The 26-year-old also holds a IAAF World Championships gold medal after having won in Daegu in 2011, with the Birmingham event landing before he hopes to regain the title in August.

The Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix takes place at Alexander Stadium on Sunday 7 June.
