New in music this week

Gary Barlow has confirmed his first solo album in seven years, set to release Music Played By Humans on 27 November 2020. Alongside the announcement, he dropped the lead single Elita featuring Michael Bublé and Sebastián Yatra. Celebrating the news, the creative force behind Take That and countless other musical endeavours has announced headline dates throughout June 2021. Pop star and TV host Olly Murs has also announced a string of headline shows, touring across the UK throughout the summer. His run kicks off in Swansea on 5 June 2021, and concludes at Colchester’s Castle Park on 29 August 2021. Tickets for his headline shows will be available from 9:00 on Friday 9 October 2020. Olly Murs’ run includes a date at Scarborough Open Air Theatre, which has announced the first batch of shows for next year. The schedule also features stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the legendary Nile Rodgers + Chic, with many more acts to be announced. Tickets for the season go on sale at 9:00 on Friday 9 October 2020. Melodic indie outfit Kodaline have announced headline shows from 17 May until 2 June 2021. The band are currently gearing up for the deluxe release of their fourth studio album, One Day At A Time, due out on the 20 November 2020. In festival news, BST Hyde Park will return in 2021, announcing Pearl Jam as their first headliners. Playing across two nights, on 9 – 10 July 2021, they will be joined by Pixies on the first and UK No.1 charged rockers IDLES on the second. Ahead of the release of their eagerly awaited new album Confetti, Little Mix have added two extra dates to their previously announced headline run. The four-piece will now also play shows in Liverpool and Nottingham on 18 and 26 May 2021, respectively. Tickets for the new dates will be available from 9:00 on 9 October 2020. [Find tickets]

The Vamps have confirmed shows from 26 April – 9 June 2021. The acclaimed four-piece will be releasing their new album Cherry Blossom on the 16 October 2020. Tickets for the shows will be available from 16:00 on Thursday 8 October 2020. [Find tickets]

Preparing for the release of their third studio album at the end of October, Sam Smith has announced a virtual gig, performing a live stream on 30 October 2020. Tickets are available now. [Find tickets]

New in theatre this week

Festive season looms as the team behind the successful socially distanced Car Park Party present Car Park Panto. Taking to a huge range of outdoor venues throughout December and into January 2021, the drive-in events follow all safety guidelines to deliver the magic of theatre this winter. NIMAX have announced a season of socially distanced theatre across the West End, including The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre. The Mischief Theatre production is running from 19 November 2020. Tickets are available now. [Find tickets]

Strictly Come Dancing will return to the stage in 2022, kicking off in Birmingham on 20 January, promising at least 33 shows across the UK. The news comes as organisers confirm that the 2021 tour will not go ahead, announcing the dates for the following year early. Fans can register their interest in tickets now. [Register here]

New in comedy this week

Stage and screen veteran Bill Bailey has announced performances throughout December 2021. He’ll be taking to arenas across the UK, culminating with a show at London’s SSE Arena, Wembley. Tickets are available now. [Find tickets]

As part of NIMAX’s socially distanced shows, Ricky Gervais will be returning to the stage on 27 October 2020 at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town. Tickets will be available from 10:00 on Friday 9 October 2020. [Find tickets]

The Comedy Store has also announced a series of socially distanced shows, taking place from 23 October until 19 December 2020, and featuring headline performances by the likes of Eddie Izzard, Sara Pascoe, Jason Manford, Nina Conti, Iain Stirling, Milton Jones, Bridget Christie and Ed Byrne.
