Halifax Piece Hall: How to plan your VIP getaway

Here's some help on how to plan your trip to Halifax's historic Piece Hall

Since 2017, Halifax’s storied Piece Hall as asserted itself as the jewel in the crown of any outdoor concerts taking place in West Yorkshire. All thanks to TK Maxx Presents Live at the Piece Hall. Countless names spanning chart-topping pop greats, indie icons, metal mainstays, and dance music legends have illuminated the rejuvenated former cloth hall’s arresting surrounds in the summer’s gone by, following its £19 million restoration.

2026’s edition is set to be no different – David Gray has been revealed as the concert series’ first addition, with a swathe of prestigious musical guests set to join him in Halifax who will be revealed in the coming weeks and months.

A genuine architectural triumph, the Piece Hall’s gorgeous Georgian stonework walls are as regal as it gets. Across the country, there’s few better venues to watch your favourite artists swoon an audience each night. Make the open-air concert experience even more spectacular by upgrading to the VIP ticket options, which you can read more about here.

Now you know about the venue. So how can you make your Piece Hall getaway that bit extra special? Here’s some help on how to plan your trip to Halifax:

How to get to Halifax’s Piece Hall

Once the beating heart of trade and industrialism in West Yorkshire, Halifax is a relatively small town. But it’s incredibly well connected.

Slap bang in the middle of cultural hubs in Manchester and Leeds (well, near enough equidistant), it’s not a long journey from either city. Trains leave from Manchester Victoria every 15 minutes taking roughly 45 minutes to arrive at Halifax station, whilst trains from Leeds are even more frequent taking just 30 minutes to get to Halifax, and costing as little as £5 depending on what time of day you depart.

For those coming from London or the south of England, the train journey is a little longer as you’d expect. But it’s no less seamless. Trains from London Kings Cross leave every 30 minutes and take roughly 3 hours to arrive in Halifax.

From neighbouring towns like Huddersfield and Bradford, it’s just an inexpensive cab ride away from Halifax town centre.

Who to see at Piece Hall

At the time of writing, only David Gray has been revealed for the 2026 edition of TK Maxx Presents Live at the Piece Hall. Bringing classic tracks from White Ladder as well as other heartfelt songs from his acclaimed career, it promises to be a performance Piece Hall punters will rhapsodise about for years to come.

For a taste of what the rest of the roster will look like, 2025’s concert series welcomed an impressive list of trailblazers and hit-makers such as ElbowKhruangbinThe Smashing PumpkinsJamesDeftonesWeezerTrainBustedThe ScriptSimple MindsTravisSupergrassLeon Bridges, and Texas. Expect the same, if not higher calibre of guests next time around.

Where to stay in Halifax

There’s a fair few hotels dotted about Halifax. But if you’re planning on making your Piece Hall soirée one to remember, then we can only recommend booking a night or two at the Holdsworth House Hotel.

Join the likes of Ewan McGregor and The Beatles (yes, The Beatles!) who have bedded down at the luxurious 15th century Jacobian manor, the only 4-star hotel in Halifax. A short Uber ride from the Piece Hall, Holdsworth House is secluded enough that you’re not in the hubbub of the town centre and the post-gig crowds, whilst only touching distance from the concert series. Whilst you’re there, it’s easy to immerse yourself into the manor’s characterful charm – just wait until you see the gorgeously maintain grounds and gardens. Its quirkiness and historic feel makes a refreshing change from run-of-the-mill corporate hotel chains.

Independently owned by the same family for over 60 years, the rooms – all individually designed with en suites – on offer are competitively priced, with dinner and breakfast packages, B&B or room only availability.

We haven’t even mentioned the food and drink yet… Not only can you guarantee getting served at the cosy bar after a Piece Hall concert with over 100 gins at your disposal and local ales on tap, the restaurant’s food is sensational. The battered fish ‘n’ chips (complete with sumptuous curry and tangy tartar sauces) is on the fancier side, but will undoubtedly be some of the best fish ‘n’ chips you’ll ever eat. Strictly using local ingredients, the a la carte dishes and firm favourites like grass-reared steak are a superb option for a pre-gig bite to eat. After popping down your knives and forks, you’ll quickly understand why Holdsworth House won the Muddy Stilettos award for 2025 Best Hotel in Yorkshire.

Where to eat and drink

Having recommended Holdsworth House for pre-gig eats ‘n’ drinks, there’s plenty of options in town if you want to be nearer the action ahead of opening times.

When it comes to food, there’s the obvious fast food staples dotted about. But we’d encourage you to support local business, especially when you consider the options available.

Seoul Food does incredible Korean cuisine. Likewise, Thai Corner is excellent for those with a hankering for Asian. True North caters for people looking for swanky dining. Totem in the Westgate Arcade that overlooks the Piece Hall is a great shout given its varied range of sandwiches, melts, and burgers. Vocation & Co. Halifax serve up superb pizza slices – and dish them out for free for Piece Hall ticket holders after the gig, so definitely pop by for a quick bite and a nightcap after.

Talking of drinks Vocation & Co. Halifax have vast array of Vocation Brewery lagers, IPA’s and local ales on tap. The Old Cock is ideal for those looking for a more salt-of-the-earth experience (with cheap drinks to boot). For wall-to-wall indie bangers on the speakers and a few rounds of pre-gig pool then head to The Union Cross Hotel. But for good vibes and a greater beverage selection, you can’t look past KØBENHAVN.

What else to do in Halifax

Halifax is a town rich in history, with several museums walking distance from the train station and the Piece Hall, namely the Calderdale Industrial Museum and Eureka! The National Children’s Museum.

Westgate Arcade is great to have a mosey around if you’re keen to buy gifts or momentos, given its boutique stores and record shops like Revo Records. Same goes for Halifax Borough Market.

Even during the day, the Piece Hall is a real attraction. Delve into its heritage with a tour around the site. Or just savour the bustling plaza in the summer sun before the concerts kick off that night, sampling from the selection of shops, bars and eateries that occupy the venue’s perimeter walls. Sit tight, unwind, and wait for the evening’s entertainment to unfold.
