Full cast announced for The Seagull

The full casting has been announced for the forthcoming new Anya Reiss adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull.

The second production of their season, The Seagull opens at London’s Playhouse Theatre on Wednesday 11 March 2020, running for a limited time until Saturday 20 May 2020.

The new cast additions join the previously announced Emilia Clarke in the forthcoming play, who is set to take on the role of Nina.

Clarke is best known her for her turn as Daenerys Targaryen in the award-winning smash-hit TV series Game of Thrones, and her theatre credits include starring in Breakfast at Tiffany’s at the Cork Theatre in New York City.

Joining Clarke to complete the cast are Danny Ashok (Disgraced, Blood and Gifts) in the role of Medvedenko, Robert Glenister (Moonlight/Night School, Uncle Vanya) as Sorin, Tom Rhys Harries (Tumulus, The Pitchfork Disney) as Tigorin, Daniel Monks (Teenage Dick, The Real and Imagined History of The Elephant Man) as Konstantin, Tamzin Outhwaite (Stepping Out, How the Other Half Loves) as Polina, Patrick Robinson (Macbeth, Warhorse) as Dorn, Seun Shote (Cyrano de Bergerac, One Man, Two Guvnors) as Shamrayez, Indira Varma (The Hothouse, Othello) as Arkadina, and Sophie Wu (Vassa, Sketching) as Masha.

The Seagull’s synopsis reads: A young woman is desperate for fame and a way out. A young man is pining after the woman of his dreams. A successful writer longs for a sense of achievement. An actress wants to fight the changing of the times. In an isolated home in the countryside where dreams are in tatters, hopes dashed, hearts broken and there is nowhere left to turn, the only option is to turn on each other.  

The Seagull has been adapted by Anya Reiss, whose playwriting credits include Oliver Twist, Uncle Vanya and Spring Awakening

It will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, whose credits include Cyrano de Bergerac, Betrayal, One For The Road and Evita. 

Part of the Jamie Lloyd Company’s Playhouse season, The Seagull is the theatre’s second production following Cyrano de Bergerac starring James McAvoy.

The Playhouse season is set finish with A Doll’s House starring Jessica Chastain, which opens on 18 June 2020.
