Here’s who has been nominated for an Olivier Award
The nominees for the highlight of the British stage awards’ circuit have been revealed.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child leads the charge for this year’s Olivier Awards, boasting a record breaking eleven nominations. It is now the most nominated new play since the awards began in 1976.
The newly revealed nominations also include nods to the likes of The Glass Menagerie, Dreamgirls, School of Rock and Buried Child.
Sir Ian McKellen celebrates his tenth nomination for his performance in No Man’s Land.
Elsewhere, Ian Bartholomew is in the running for actor in a supporting role for Half A Sixpence. The musical is also honoured for supporting actress (Emma Williams) and best actor (Charlie Stemp).
The recently opened The Girls, created by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, has received nods in the same category, as well as Best New Musical and a joint ensemble nomination for Best Actress.
Dreamgirls is noted for its music, costume design and as Best New Musical, as well as for Adam J Bernard in a supporting role and lead Amber Riley.
The young cast of School of Rock are nominated for their outstanding achievement in music, with the production also being noted for David Fynn’s performance and as a Best New Musical.
The Glass Menagerie, written by Tennessee William, celebrates seven nominations including Best Revival and Best Director for John Tiffany (who is also nominated for Harry Potter).
Making his West End debut, Ed Harris has been nominated for his role in the unsettling Buried Child, with Kenneth Branagh set to be honoured with a prestigious special award.
The ceremony will take place on 9 April 2017 at the Royal Albert Hall.
