Inside No.9, Bob Mortimer and Flo & Joan scoop two each at 2025 Chortle Awards

Chris McCausland, Emma Sidi & Michael Odewale also got their flowers

Last night (Monday 17 March) the winners of the 2025 Chortle Awards, which celebrate the best of UK comedy, were announced at a ceremony in London. It was a night for the duos, with Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton taking home Best TV Show for Inside No.9 (for the fourth time), as well as the Outstanding Achievement award.

Likewise, musical comedy pair Flo & Joan won the Sketch & Variety award as well as Best Show for One Man Musical, a recent hit at the Soho Underbelly Boulevard Theatre starring George Fouracres as a certain West End Musical impresario, which earnt reviews such as “an instant classic” (Broadway World) and “a sensation” (The Guardian).

Though he couldn’t be at the ceremony to pick up the award because he was “trapped under a bottle of screen wash,” national treasure Bob Mortimer also bagged a brace with Best TV Comic and the Book Award for his 2024 crime comedy The Hotel Avocado. Mortimer may have beaten Chris McCausland for the former prize, but the comic had further flowers as his Strictly winning performance won Event Of The Year.

There were also touching tributes to those no longer with us: Bill Dare, the BBC radio producer who passed earlier this month, was given then Offstage Contribution award; while the late Janey Godley was honoured for her show about cancer, The C Bomb, with Best Radio Comedy.
