Billy Elliot the Musical announces the four actors in the leading role

As the musical prepares to return to the West End, the four boys sharing the role of Billy have been revealed

Billy Elliot the Musical is heading back to London for a limited season at the Adelphi Theatre, before heading across the country on a UK tour. The musical has revealed the four actors who will share the titular role of Billy Elliot from 12 February 2027. Noah Mannion, age 12, from Stockport, Rafferty Smale, age 12, from Leigh-on-Sea, Spencer Collins, age 13, from Los Angeles, and William Gurney, age 12, from Berkshire will all take turns playing Billy, the determined young boy whose discovery of ballet transforms both his own future and that of the community around him.

In a full circle moment, fans of the original musical may also recognise a familiar face in the wider cast. Liam Mower, one of the three original Billy Elliots when the musical premiered in London, will return to the show as Older Billy.

Based on Stephen Daldry’s acclaimed 2000 film, Billy Elliot the Musical is set against the backdrop of the 1984–85 miners’ strike. When eleven-year-old Billy discovers ballet, he nurtures his natural talents with the help of his teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, eventually earning the chance to audition for the Royal Ballet School. However, his family’s financial struggles and his father’s disapproval may stand between him and his dream.

Lee Hall adapted the story for the stage, writing both the book and lyrics, while Elton John composed the score. The musical premiered at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London in March 2005, running for 11 years before closing in April 2016. Among the boys to play Billy during the show’s original run was star of stage and screen Layton Williams and Tom Holland, who later became internationally famous as Spider-Man. Since its debut, Billy Elliot the Musical has been seen by more than 10.5 million people worldwide and collected over 80 international awards, including 10 Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards.Top of FormBottom of Form

The revival reunites many members of the original creative team. Stephen Daldry returns as director alongside choreographer Peter Darling, with scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costumes by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting by Rick Fisher and sound by Paul Arditti. Martin Koch provides musical supervision and orchestrations, while Simon Pollard serves as tour director and Jeroen Luiten joins as associate choreographer.
