PDC Darts scores biggest audience ahead of Premier League tour
It’s official, Darts has become the most watched non-football sport on Sky TV.
A whopping 1.8m viewers tuned in to watch the PDC World Darts Championship in 2014, as the best from the sport went head to head for the top title.
Gary Anderson crowned PDC World Darts Champion as he saw off fierce competition from 16-time champion Phil Taylor, in what resulted in a dramatic dart-off that had TV audiences gripped.
Darts fans also packed out London’s Alexandra Palace for the main event on 4 January, which ended in a 7-6 victory to first-time champion Anderson.
There was even a dedicated Sky Sports Darts channel catching the drama from the tournament across 14-days of action – but the fun doesn’t end there.
Ten of the sport’s best players will hit the road next month for the Premier League Darts, kicking off in Leeds on 5 February.
Gary Anderson, Phil Taylor, Peter Wright, Adrian Lewis, James Wade, Stephen Bunting and Michael Van Gerwen will step up to the, er, dart board for the tour. Joined by Dave Chisnall, Raymond van Barneveld and Kim Huybrechts – it promises to be every bit as nail-biting as the championship action.
