NFL Academy announces virtual tryouts

For the first time ever, the NFL Academy has launched a virtual way of discovering the next generation of star athletes – including those from the UK.

Promising athletes are asked to record themselves completing four NFL drills; speed, agility, strength and athleticism. These should then be both posted on Instagram and sent directly to the NFL Academy.

Calling on athletes aged between 16 and 18, head coach Tony Allen explains that these videos will be assessed by top coaches from across the Academy.

“Once these films have been sent to us, we’ll sit down with our coaching staff, evaluate and rank the athletes. Selection will be made on the players’ athletic performance and open spots within the program roster.

“We’re looking for athletes who are not only good players but good students as well; who are going to work hard both on and off the field. We know there is competition out there as we’ve had more than 500 athletes register their interest already, so we’re excited to see what talent we can bring into the NFL Academy.”

Beginning its life in September 2019, the NFL Academy provides full-time education alongside development of skills and knowledge of American football. As well as top level coaching, athletes also study at Barnet and Southgate College.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for young, aspiring American football players,” says Barnet and Southgate College’s Tracey McIntosh, “giving them the unique chance to train and develop their skills and knowledge of the game whilst also completing a full-time education.”

How to tryout for the NFL Academy

To virtually tryout for the NFL Academy, you must complete four NFL drills. These are speed, agility, strength and athleticism.

Once filmed, the videos should be uploaded to Instagram.
