Full men’s field confirmed for Six Day London
Here's who will be joining Cavendish, Kennaugh, Burke and Latham.
With only 14 days until this year’s exciting Six Day London event, organisers have confirmed the full men’s field. The additions join the previously announced Great Britain team members Mark Cavendish, Peter Kennaugh, Steven Burke and Chris Latham.
We recently caught up with Burke and Latham at the event’s home, the Lee Valley VeloPark in London, to find out more about things to come:
The men’s event will see sixteen teams, 32 world-class riders, Olympic and world champions galore, compete at London’s iconic venue.
The event welcomes back current champions Kenny de Ketele and Moreno de Pauw.
“We’re very excited to be back in London, I really like the track,” says de Ketele. “I did the Games in London and I always think about it when we walk into the venue or see the hotel – you pass the Olympic village and it brings back so many memories.”
“Then the last two years London has been really special for me and Moreno. It’s where we first started as a team, it’s where it all began for us in the Madison.”
“Then last year I don’t know how, but we did it again.”
The field also sees the return of Kennaugh to the London track following his Olympic gold win in the team pursuit in 2012. Cavendish rode to the Madison world title and second at Six Day London 2016 with Sir Bradley Wiggins.
“It’s going to be a great experience doing my first pro Six Day with Cav,” says Kennaugh.
“I think a lot of guys from the Isle of Man, and the other British professionals, don’t take him for granted, but just see him as Cav.
“But when you actually look at his palmares and what he’s done in his career, to be doing my first pro Six Day with a triple world Madison Champion and 30-time Tour de France stage winner, is pretty crazy.”
They’ll be competing against the likes of French pair Morgan Kneisky and Benjamin Thomas, leaders of the pack this year, with Kneisky a world Madison champion three times over.
The field welcomes 11 different nationalities across six action packed days.
