This time, Galway-born singer-songwriter Jamie McIntyre is taking up the mantle over at Glasgow’s favourite small venue. You might’ve heard his 2024 smash hit ‘Over Galway Town’, which has amassed over five million streams on Spotify, or perhaps you don’t know him at all and fancy some new music on a free Wednesday night. Whatever the reason, we’re excited to see the good time he’s bound to give a music-loving live audience. McIntyre has been selling out shows in Belfast and Dublin, and has played overseas in Paris as well. We’re sure he’s on the steady climb to international fame! Drop by for a brand new earworm or two.

You might’ve seen 22-year-old Asha Banks on your screens, since she’s acted in various TV programmes including Rebel Cheer Squad and BBC Three’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. However, Banks is switching things up by touring her music this time. Banks has released various EPs since starting out in music in 2024, collaborating with rising singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone on Dive. Banks has also released So Green, Untie My Tongue and How Real Was It? as she edges towards a potential debut album which we hope will be on the horizon! If you like Joni Mitchell or even Nora Jones, Asha Banks might be for you.

Join a giant Nirvana tribute with Smells Like Nirvana

Spend Friday the 13th at a Nirvana tribute concert! It’s the closest thing we have to the real deal, and it looks entirely worth the effort! Particularly fitting for history buffs or those who enjoy a walk near the countryside, all you need to do is pick up the leaflet from a local shop in the area and follow the map inside. The idea is to explore the area of Glasgow’s last remaining village, completing a total of 16 stops (or fewer if you don’t fancy all of them) and scanning a QR code each time to unveil a fascinating photo archive, plus videos and interviews made by villagers years ago.

Ashton Lane, with its pretty lights and cobbled path, looks nothing like the rest of Glasgow. This one is recommended for a quiet Sunday or chilled autumn afternoon. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery now has nine never-before-seen displays by Alasdair Gray, including works from The Morag McAlpine Bequest. You’ll find these pieces in the Fragile Art Gallery, so head along if you’re keen on this Scottish poet and artist. Surreally, some of the artwork was done for his 1992 novel Poor Things, which was recently adapted into a film starring Emma Stone. In 2024, Stone won an Academy Award for her leading role in the film, so a visit to this gallery might not be your average day out!

Take the Glasgow Necropolis Heritage Trail

There are plenty of short heritage trails to walk in the centre of Glasgow, including the Necropolis Heritage Trail. It’ll take roughly one hour and 45 minutes, and you’ll discover the history of one of Europe’s most important and famous cemeteries. It homes thousands of graves from the Victorian era and, along with a great view across the city, you’ll get a rewarding walk out of the trail. Guided tours are available, so treat yourself to a fascinating wander this October!

There’s a fascinating city centre Mural Trail in Glasgow where you can tour round the impressive artwork based on varying moods and themes – from calm and serene to unforgettable and bizarre!
This is an innovative way to spend a free Saturday afternoon if you’ve got some spare time on your hands. There’s a handy map online to make sure you don’t miss any murals and you can figure out the best way to get around some (or all) of them at your own pace. Overall, it’s a fantastic way to support local artists and Glaswegian arts culture!
