The era of the boyband isn’t over yet. At least, American-Australian foursome Midnight Til Morning won’t let it be. Formed as a result of the Netflix hit show Building the Band, MTM, as this group are gleefully known, will appear in Glasgow this week for a feel-good show with all the ingredients of a fresh new act seasoned with familiar, unbeatable nostalgia. But act fast – this Monday’s SWG3 show has limited availability, so nab your spot for a last-minute dose of serotonin.

There’s no shortage of grassroots music this January! As is tradition at the start of every year, King Tut’s New Year’s Resolution festival is back from 2-25 January, and you could be in for a great night this Wednesday. Come along to support the best of Scotland’s emerging talent in 2026. Who knows – since previous participants include Lewis Capaldi and Fatherson – you could bear witness to the future’s biggest stars. We couldn’t possibly do this roundup without mentioning Celtic Connections! On the stacked lineup this week are Katie Gregson-MacLeod and Sophie May, the former of which will be playing her first headline show of the festival. As an Inverness native, Gregson-MacLeod has been on a steady incline, wowing listeners with her pensive songwriting and poetic lyricism which, in 2022, placed her on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘25 Artists to Watch’ list. This is also an opportunity to hear English singer-songwriter and guitarist Sophie May, too, who’s building an adoring fanbase for her beautiful acoustic sets and vulnerable songwriting.

Hear renowned West African talent Rokia Koné

There’s another option on the cards for this Friday night if you’re keen on Celtic Connections but fancy some exposure to cultural music. If that’s the case, consider watching Rokia Koné and supporting artist Boubacar Samake at Saint Luke’s. Koné, who’s becoming a leading soul singer from Malia, is set to deliver a captivating set full of rich vocals and sweeping Mande guitar grooves. In West African soul, an important aspect of the music is traditional percussion, so it will be a privilege to hear an authentic style of playing in the heart of Scotland.

Thrashing out at a post-hardcore gig is possibly not how you spend your average Sunday night but, hey, this is 2026! New year, new you, right? Superheaven are turning up at SWG3 at the end of this week, and they’re known for dragging the best parts of grunge, post-hardcore and shoe gaze together to make something you literally can’t sit still for. Plus, this four-piece group has been around since 2008, so if anyone knows how to do it, it’s them.

Let Scottish Youth Theatre introduce some promising new playwrights

January is the perfect time to uncover new talent or experience a different kind of entertainment. At Oran Mor, a selection of budding playwrights will showcase their latest works to an audience of theatre fans and critics, so don’t miss out if this sounds like you! The talent involved in the event known as Trajectories New Writers include Amina Aaliya Beg, Elliot Scott, Isaac Frost, Lola Rose Wood and Poppy Hope Smith, all of whom have worked with award winning playwright Douglas Maxwell to make their plays the best they can be. The whole event lasts over two days, but this Friday you can choose to watch either one or two of the five plays written specially by these writers. Go along and enjoy!

For a bit of a laugh this weekend, this 85-minute show could be the breath of fresh air you need, and a happy reminder not to take everyday life the slightest bit seriously. Carroll’s tour is relatively short with just ten tour dates, so catch him now – while you can!

Have a day out away from the hustle and bustle of Glasgow city centre on the Carmunnock Heritage Trail. Particularly fitting for history buffs or those who enjoy a walk near the countryside, all you need to do is pick up the leaflet from a local shop in the area and follow the map inside. The idea is to explore the area of Glasgow’s last remaining village, completing a total of 16 stops (or fewer if you don’t fancy all of them) and scanning a QR code each time to unveil a fascinating photo archive, plus videos and interviews made by villagers years ago.

This one is recommended for a quiet Sunday or chilled autumn afternoon. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery now has nine never-before-seen displays by Alasdair Gray, including works from The Morag McAlpine Bequest. You’ll find these pieces in the Fragile Art Gallery, so head along if you’re keen on this Scottish poet and artist. Surreally, some of the artwork was done for his 1992 novel Poor Things, which was recently adapted into a film starring Emma Stone. In 2024, Stone won an Academy Award for her leading role in the film, so a visit to this gallery might not be your average day out!

One popular option for a cold winter’s day is exploring an art gallery, and one that’s often forgotten about in Glasgow is The Burrell Collection. Last year, this collection of art by Sir William Burrell and Constance, Lady Burrell won Best Large Museum in Family Friendly Museum Award, so we can’t think of a better time to stop by. The attraction has been open since 1983 and reopened in 2022 after closing for a while due to refurbishments. This way, you’ll get to experience a freshly renewed museum with a recent award win under its belt!

A popular weekend activity anywhere you go is always to have a wander round a local marketplace. Take the Glasgow Necropolis Heritage Trail

There are plenty of short heritage trails to walk in the centre of Glasgow, including the Necropolis Heritage Trail. It’ll take roughly one hour and 45 minutes, and you’ll discover the history of one of Europe’s most important and famous cemeteries. It homes thousands of graves from the Victorian era and, along with a great view across the city, you’ll get a rewarding walk out of the trail. Guided tours are available, so treat yourself to a fascinating wander this October!

There’s a handy map online to make sure you don’t miss any murals and you can figure out the best way to get around some (or all) of them at your own pace. Overall, it’s a fantastic way to support local artists and Glaswegian arts culture!
