Stranger Things’ David Harbour reveals the song that would save him from Vecna

The Mad House and Stranger Things star told E! News the song to save him from Vecna was a favourite from his college days

David Harbour has revealed the song that would save him from Vecna in Stranger Things is ‘Mr. Jones’ by Counting Crows.

In an interview on E! News‘ late-night talk show Nightly Pop on Thursday, the Stranger Things and Mad House actor jokes that the 1993 track would not only bring him back from the monster’s grip but also back to his college days.

“My sort of college years were the early ’90s so that’s really where music became very important, like sitting around in the dorm room, jamming out to Counting Crows and Stone Temple Pilots.”

The song was the lead single from Counting Crows’ 1993 debut album August and Everything After. The San Francisco alt-rock band has recently announced a string of UK dates for October 2022.

In the latest season of Stranger Things, the monstrous, Freddy Kruger-esque character Vecna hunted, controlled and tortured residents of Hawkins from the Upside Down, before Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) discover a special, unique song that can save those in his grip.

When Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) is under his control, Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill‘ is the only song that can save her, leading to the track’s unprecedented revival.

Harbour is currently in the production Mad House, a new West End play co-starring Bill Pullman which runs until 4 September. Ticketmaster spoke with both actors in July, you can read that interview here.

Counting Crows are heading on a UK tour in October, visiting Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Southampton and London. Tickets are available here.
