Avril Lavigne’s Sk8r Boi movie and nine more possible pop punk projects
With Avril Lavigne's Sk8r Boi set for a film adaptation, we look at other pop punk prospects for the big screen treatment
This week, we were intrigued by the news that a film is in the works based on Avril Lavigne’s pop punk anthem ‘Sk8r Boi’. So intrigued that we started to ponder if any other pop punk tunes might make good films. Yes, is the answer. But should they all, for no discernable reason, star Timothée Chalamet? Also, yes.
*Disclaimer: Timothée Chalamet is not, at the time of writing, connected in any way with the film Sk8r Boi or any of the other projects mentioned.
‘You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison’ – My Chemical Romance
Two impossibly handsome but physically weak teenagers (both played by Timothée Chalamet) are arrested after hijacking a shipment of hair products. Their ineffectual lawyer (Will Ferrell) relies on a controversial “They’re too handsome to do time” defence to save his clients. It fails. The rest of the film is pretty traumatic. Co-starring Vinny Jones, Dave Bautista and The Rock.
‘Punk Rock Princess’ – Something Corporate
In this delightful mash-up of Mid90s and The Princess Diaries, Timothée Chalamet plays an impossibly handsome skate punk who falls for a strange new arrival at the skate park (Elle Fanning). The two embark on a touching romance which is thrown into jeopardy when he discovers her true identity (spoiler alert: she’s a princess).
‘Nice Guys Finish Last’ – Green Day
Biopic of an impossibly handsome runner who qualifies for the Olympics but is scuppered by his uncontrollable urge to stop and compliment everyone in the crowd. Stars Timothée Chalamet.
‘Sugar, We’re Goin Down’ – Fall Out Boy
Sugar (Saoirse Ronan) gets into the lift on the 97th floor of the Empire State Building, planning on going to the 98th floor. The lift is going down. The only other person in the lift is a charming, impossibly handsome office worker (Timothée Chalamet). They’ve 96 floors to fall in love.
‘Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous’ – Good Charlotte
Documentary where Timothée Chalamet gets incensed by Good Charlotte’s diatribe about celebrities “always complainin” and decides to accept their challenge to live on the street for two days. Reluctantly admits they were correct.
‘Buddy Holly’ – Weezer
Timothée Chalamet stars as Rivers Cuomo in this gripping adventure story about how Weezer time-travelled back to the 1950s to shoot the video for their breakthrough hit, ‘Buddy Holly’. Many actual Buddy Holly fans demand their money back.
‘All The Small Things’ – blink-182
An impossibly handsome artist specialising in creating miniatures of everyday objects wakes one day with amnesia and thinks he’s a giant. Probably stars Timothée Chalamet.
‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ – The Offspring
The story of the making of Lisa Cholodenko’s 2010 film The Kids Are Alright. Starring Timothée Chalamet as Mark Ruffalo.
‘The Middle’ – Jimmy Eat World
Beginning isn’t great. The ending sucks. The rest is excellent. Stars Timothée Chalamet.
