KPOP the musical is heading to Broadway with K-pop superstar Luna

The wildly popular genre is headed to the Great White Way

It’s already a global phenomenon, but now the South Korean music genre known as ‘K-pop’ is coming to a whole new audience as it makes its Broadway debut. KPOP is set to open on Broadway this autumn, with previews from October 13 and opening night set for November 20.

The show follows a group of K-pop superstars putting everything on the line for a special one-night-only concert as one performer’s inner struggle threatens one of the biggest labels in the industry. And K-pop fans will see a familiar face in the part of this conflicted performer – Luna will be taking to the Broadway stage for the very first time. A member of K-pop girl group f(x) and now a successful solo artist in her own right, Luna is a major name in the industry.

Described as an all-consuming multimedia experience, the creators of the show (which originally ran off-Broadway in 2017) aim to fuse the vibrant world of K-pop with the powerful storytelling of Broadway. Luna, who has previously starred in Korean productions of Mamma Mia! and In The Heights, is ready for the challenge.

“For those of you who already know and love K-pop music, this show is going to remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place,” she said at a press conference on Wednesday. “For those of you yet to discover K-pop, get ready – we’re going to blow you away.”
