This will be the artist’s first album in five years

Hip-hop fans may have had cause to panic when Kendrick Lamar shared a tweet from a fan that read ‘Kendrick Lamar is officially retired’. However, the link he attached led fans to the announcement they had been waiting for.

A press release was published on his website revealing that Lamar’s fifth album would be released on May 13. The album is to be entitled Mr Morale & The Big Steppers and will be his first in five years. The announcement was accompanied by the words: ‘Appreciate your patience’.

Lamar’s last album, 2017’s Damn, became the first non-jazz or classical work to win the Pulitzer Prize for music.
