Hot Chip announce new album Freakout/Release, share funky lead single ‘Down’
The London outfit's eighth full-length is set for release 19 August.
London electropop outfit Hot Chip have announced news of their eighth full-length album Freakout/Release, out 19 August on Domino Records. Recorded from their own Relax And Enjoy studio in East London, the album will be their first since 2019’s A Bath Full Of Ecstasy.
Recording live in their own space helped to capture the group’s energetic, full-band approach to dance music, as inspired by their cover of Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’. Speaking of this influence, guitarist and keyboardist Al Doyle says: “The idea of being out of control is always there in dance music, in a positive sense”.
The band have also dropped the record’s punchy and funk lead single, ‘Down’, which samples Universal Togetherness Band’s ‘More Than Enough’. Watch the video directed by Douglas Hart and Steve Mackey below.
