FLO win BBC’s Sound of 2023
The 'Cardboard Box' singers are tipped for a big year
London R&B trio FLO have won the BBC’s Sound of 2023. Renée Downer, Jorja Douglas and Stella Quaresma beat the likes of Fred Again.. and Nia Archives to top the broadcaster’s annual poll that scouts out the upcoming year’s top musical talent.
FLO, who broke out onto the scene in 2022 with the R&B throwback ‘Cardboard Box’ and have garnered support from the likes of Missy Elliot, Victoria Monét and SZA, were presented the award by Stormzy.
The group also won the BRIT Rising Star Award and are one of Ticketmaster’s Breakthrough’23 list, kicking off their aim to “Go down in girl group history” in earnest. Their debut EP The Lead was released in July 2022.
BBC’s Sound of… poll has ran since 2003, and has included winners such as 50 Cent, Adele, Years & Years and Pa Salieu.
