Watch Coldplay and Natalie Imbruglia cover ‘Summer Nights’ in honour of Olivia Newton-John
The musicians joined forces at Coldplay’s third Wembley show and also covered Imbruglia’s hit ‘Torn’
The tributes are still pouring in for Olivia Newton-John, the singer and actress best known for her role as Sandy in Grease who passed away last week at the age of 73. Following a cover of ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’ by the Chicks, Coldplay also decided to honour Newton-John in one of their live shows, inviting singer-songwriter Natalie Imbruglia for a cover of ‘Summer Nights’, another Grease classic. Imbruglia assumed the role of Sandy, singing the lines popularized by Newton-John, whilst Chris Martin sang the part of Danny, played in the 1978 film by John Travolta. Jacob Collier also sang along with the pair on the chorus.
Prior to this tribute, Imbruglia and Coldplay also covered her 1997 debut single ‘Torn’. Imbruglia recently performed the song with Olivia Rodrigo on the Sour Tour, and will soon be inducted by Rodrigo into the Canadian Hall of Fame.
Coldplay play Wembley Stadium on 20 and 21 August and Glasgow on 24 August. Get the last few remaining tickets here.
