Meet the South Shields songwriter winning over fans with her ethereal lyrics and dazzling voice.
We’ve been scouring the live circuit to find the next big thing for our New For 2018 picks, presenting the eight most exciting breakthrough artists.
It would have been difficult over the past twelve months not to have heard Sigrid’s internationally acclaimed single Don’t Kill My Vibe, already racking up a notable number of nominations on song of the year lists.
The early standout is just the tip of the iceberg for what has been an incredible year. Don’t Kill My Vibe teased the UK singles chart, sitting tantalisingly close to the top 40. It’s a brilliant slice of pop mastery that blends together its dance floor vibes with an unforgettable melody. A feat easily matched on follow up tracks Plot Twist and Strangers.
Sigrid, full name Sigrid Solbakk Rabbe, also broke through into Hollywood with the hauntingly beautiful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Everybody Knows featured on the Justice League soundtrack.
Taking Everybody Knows and her radio friendly pop as opposite ends of her obvious ability, Sigrid effortlessly delivers across the full spectrum. It’s this that has made her one of the most exciting emerging artists on the live scene. At this year’s Great Escape Festival she performed both stripped back sessions and full plugged in shows. Her stunning voice dominated both.
Those performances marked the start of a busy festival season, one that further introduced Sigrid’s vocal balance and undisputedly huge melodies to the masses. It’s a trend set to continue come the new year, where the truly exciting pop vocalist will be following up her Don’t Kill My Vibe EP and subsequent single releases.
