Photo Diary: Nick Mulvey takes us on tour with Laura Marling
Former Portico Quartet member Nick Mulvey takes us behind the scenes of Laura Marling’s recent UK tour. Since departing from his former band the singer-songwriter has released his début solo EP Fever To The Form through Mumford affiliated label Communion Records, and is about to release his first single for Fiction records.
Mulvey was asked to join Marling on her recent eight-date tour of the UK and kept a photo diary of his travels for the TM Blog.
Sound-check in Dublin. Not me playing a gig to no people in an empty hall. Honest…
Birmingham Symphony Hall. A total joy to play in these kinds of venues on this tour. I remember this one being particularly good..
It’s quite intense being up there alone. Nothing to deflect the attention. But its a buzz when it all flows right..
Working with soundman Matt Lewis on this tour has been a key development for me. It was sounding superb
Where’s the effing load-in?!
Off to Dublin. Punching the air. Why not.
I often like to play in quiet spots in train stations and airports. For some reason I get a lot of ideas coming there.
Sound-check at Sage Centre in Newcastle. This is an amaaazing hall to play. Special acoustics…
It was lovely to meet all the new people on this tour and I was flattered by the reception I got. Laura’s crowd were very warm to my songs. I recall the next girl waiting asked if i’d sign her boobs.
Even had time to do a spot of punting in Cambridge! Filmed a song for a music blog and ambled along the river…
Nick is due to head out on a solo UK headline tour in November, tickets are available from here, and his new single ‘Nitrous’ is out October 28.
