Lovebox Festival 2015: five of our favourite moments from day one

As Lovebox Festival returns to East London’s Victoria Park for 2015, Ticketmaster’s George Hellens heads down to catch the best bits from Friday.

1. Grime – Skepta, Novelist and Preditah

The revival of the genre has seen more and more grime artists added to commercial festival line-ups and it was no exception at Lovebox, with some of the biggest stars taking to the stage. To kick off the day, Boy Better Know producer Preditah brought his hard hitting BPMs to wake up the crowd. Closely followed by rising star, Novelist, who held his own for an hour set even with his current limited discography. All topped off by the man of the moment Joseph Adenuga, aka Skepta, who pulled the biggest crowd of the afternoon.

2. Mark Ronson

The world-renowned producer brought his star-studded line-up of dub plates to Victoria Park and even though it was a DJ set he kept the crowd going with his Mary Poppins bag of hits. Mark took it back to his DJ roots playing hip hop to compliment the sunny weather but took time to play his 2015 banger, Uptown Funk, that filled the park with disco vibes.

3. The Mountain Dew Vert ramp

A perfect addition to the music was the Mountain Dew Vert ramp, in the sweltering heat it provided a sweet spot to take a breather from the music and watch a selection of top professional skateboarders literally flying through the skies of East London.

4. Rudimental

What’s better for a sunset than a high energy show from the UK’s best genre-bending group with smash hits including Waiting All Night, which unfortunately didn’t feature guest Ella Eyre who played just a few hours earlier. The Hackney hometown boys also worked some of their new material into the set, due to drop later this year.

5. A few surprises

Brands were bigger than ever at Lovebox Festival 2015 and it meant you could get the high-street food and drink at your favourite festival. Our highlights were the Nando’s Restaurant, Corona Sunsets and also the HTC mirror cube that gave you the perfect photo opportunity in front of the main stage.
