Organisers of American Express presents BST Hyde Park have announced Kendrick Lamar as their latest headliner for next summer’s festival.

The multiple Grammy Award-winning artist will take to the stage at London’s iconic park on Sunday 5 July 2020, where he’ll be joined by the Mercury Prize-winning James Blake and Alabama Shakes’s Brittany Howard.

The newly announced show marks Lamar’s first UK appearance since headlining Reading and Leeds, and Glasgow Summer Sessions in summer 2018.

The rapper received huge critical acclaim for his Reading and Leeds performance from the likes the NME and The Guardian, with the latter describing his set as a “blitzkrieg of rapid-fire wordplay”.

Although he released his first record Section 80 in 2011, it was Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore effort Good Kid, M.A.A.D City that turned the rapper from Compton, California into a global superstar.

The release, featuring singles such as Swimming Pools (Drank), The Recipe and B***h Don’t Kill My Vibe reached the top 20 on the Official UK Albums Chart.

Lamar followed up Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2015 with the release of the hugely anticipated To Pimp A Butterfly.

The record topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic on release, and the album’s lean single won Lamar his first two Grammy Awards.

Lamar’s latest album Damn dropped in 2017. Widely praised for both its lyrical content and high-level musicality, he was awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music for the record, becoming the first non-jazz or classical artist to do so.

Alongside his own work, Lamar is known for collaborating with artists from all four corners of the musical landscape, having worked with musicians such as U2, N.E.R.D, Taylor Swift, SZA, ScHoolboy Q, Imagine Dragons, Sia, Maroon 5, Kanye West and Beyoncé to name a few.
