The Mousetrap to reopen in the West End this October
Agatha Christie's murder mystery will return in accordance with Government social distancing guidelines.
The West End production of The Mousetrap is set to reopen in London on 23 October 2020.
Noted as the longest running show in the world, Agatha Christie’s tale will be performed in accordance with Government social distancing guidelines, and in line with their recently announced road map for the return of live theatre.
In a statement, The Mousetrap producer Adam Spiegel explains that through support of their stakeholders, the production has adapted its economic model.
“From examinations of the operational requirements of the building, we are able to adhere to necessary social distancing on stage, backstage and throughout the auditorium and public spaces,” he says, going on to both celebrate the show’s longevity and the legacy of its writer, Agatha Christie.
“Her name being back up in lights in the West End, heralding the beginning of the end of a very dark time in the history of the theatre, means she will rightly remain one of the most celebrated figures in our cultural life.”
The Mousetrap began live as a radio play under the title Three Blind Mice, now preparing to celebrate its 70th anniversary in London in 2022.
Performed over 28,000 times, the mystery brings together seven strangers snowed in at Monkswell Manor, one of which is responsible for a murder. With the help of an inquisitive police sergeant, each of the characters reveal their sordid pasts.
The cast for the return of The Mousetrap will be revealed in the near future.
