Sunset Boulevard opens at the London Coliseum starring Glenn Close

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard is to open at the London Coliseum for a limited 43-show run during April 2016.

Glenn Close will also make her West End debut, reprising her Tony-Award winning role as Norma Desmond.

Lonny Price (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) will return to the London Coliseum to direct the strictly the hotly anticipated show.

Sunset Boulevard tells the captivating story of romance and obsession, based on Billy Wilder’s classic film, with celebrated book and lyrics byDon Black (Born Free, Diamonds are Forever) and Christopher Hampton (Les Liaisons Dangereuses and Atonement).

The official show plot reads: “When impoverished screenwriter Joe Gillis stumbles into the reclusive world of faded silent-screen goddess Norma Desmond, she sees the opportunity to make a comeback and rise to her former glory. He by turn is seduced by the actress and her luxurious lifestyle.  But the entanglement between the pair is to have dramatic and tragic consequences.

“With the lush melodies of this much-loved score (including Sunset Boulevard, With One Look and The Perfect Year) performed by ENO’s acclaimed orchestra, this semi-staged production promises to be a spectacular evening.”
