The initial cast has been announced for Sleepless, a brand new musical comedy based on the original screenplay of the hit 1993 rom-com Sleepless In Seattle.

Sleepless is set to open at London’s Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on Tuesday 24 March 2020 and is currently booking until Sunday 3 May 2020.

The new musical celebrates a book by Michael Burdette and music and lyrics by Robert Scott and Brendan Cull.

Former The Wanted star Jay McGuinness will play Sam in the forthcoming production. Jay won Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, and since then has starred in the West End productions of Rip It Up – The 60s and BIG The Musical.

The role of Annie in Sleepless will be portrayed by former Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh. Walsh’s theatre credits include Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical, Jovie in Elf The Musical, and as Susan Lawrence in BIG The Musical (where she starred alongside McGuinness).

Daniel Casey, who is best known for his role as DS Gavin Troy in the first six seasons of the ITV drama Midsomer Murders, is set to play Walter in the musical. His theatre work includes The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, Yes Primeminister, and Abigails’s Party.

Also set to appear in Sleepless are Charlie Bull, Colin Burnicle, Christie-Lee Crosson, Laura Darton, Leanne Garretty, Matt Holland, Ross McLaren, Gary Murphy, Dominique Planter, Annie Wensak, and Benjamin Wong, with Theo Collis, Mikey Colville, and Jack Reynolds sharing the role of Jonah.

Sleepless follows Sam, who after becoming a widower, relocates to Seattle with his eight-year-old son Jonah. After being coerced into pouring his heart out on a radio show by his son, Sam becomes one of the most sought-after single men in the US and a great news story for feisty journalist Annie, who agrees to meet Sam on top of the Empire State Building.

Sleepless is directed by Morgan Young (White Christmas, Elf, Big).
