Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre 2020 season announced

Four productions will grace the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's stage this summer.

Set in the centre of London’s Regent’s Park, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has revealed its 2020 season, opening with 101 Dalmatians on 16 May 2020.

The season the includes William Shakespeare’s acclaimed Romeo and Juliet, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic Carousel, and the family-orientated Dragons and Mythical Beasts.

Together, they bring a mesmerising blend of a brand new and a classic musical, an iconic Shakespeare tale, and a soon-to-be family favourite.

Based on the book by Dodie Smith, 101 Dalmatians uses puppetry to bring the tale to life as a brand new musical.

Kimberley Sykes directs Shakespeare’s tale of forbidden love, Romeo and Juliet.

Featuring If I Loved You and You’ll Never Walk Alone, Carousel sees director Timothy Sheader once again team up with choreographer Drew McOnie following the success of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Rounding off the season, Dragons and Mythical Beasts promises a new interactive show for all the family from the creators of Dinosaur World Live.

The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre opened in 1932, and is one of the largest theatres in London. Situated in the heart of the royal park, the uncovered stage and auditorium have welcomed the likes of The Turn of the Screw, Little Shop of Horrors, The Crucible and more.

The 2019 season welcomed the likes of Pulitzer Prize-winning play Our Town and Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, to great acclaim.

The theatre’s productions have won many awards, including the coveted Olivier. In 2016, its telling of Jesus Christ Superstar won the gong for Best Musical Revival.

Within the theatre complex, visitors can enjoy covered dining (advance booking is recommended), on-the-go food, and a fully stocked bar with an outdoor seating area, all within the unique setting in one of London’s most celebrated parks.
