One Day The Musical will head to the West End this autumn
Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose will star in One Day at the Garrick Theatre
One Day The Musical, based on David Nicholls’ bestselling 2009 novel, will open at London’s Garrick Theatre this autumn following a premiere run at Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre (and yes, it’ll run for more than one day.) The show follows Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, whose relationship unfolds across decades, revisiting their lives on the same date each year – St Swithin’s Day, 15 July.
Jamie Muscato (Heathers, The Great Gatsby) will reprise the role of Dexter, with Sharon Rose also returning to play Emma. The adaptation comes from playwright David Greig, with music and lyrics by husband-and-wife duo Abner and Amanda Ramirez of American band JOHNNYSWIM. Additional material is provided by Olivier Award-winning writer Jeremy Sams.
The production is directed by Max Webster, with choreography from Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, set and costume by Rae Smith, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Simon Baker, musical supervision by Nigel Lilley and orchestrations and co-arrangements by Simon Hale.
Producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska for Melting Pot said: “From the moment we encountered One Day, we recognised its extraordinary emotional power. This is a story for anyone who has been in love, for anyone whose life hasn’t gone to plan, for anyone whose life has, for anyone who has had a parent, or a child, or a friend – so everyone really – which is why is has resonated with millions of people around the world.”
One Day has sold more than six million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 40 languages since its publication in 2009. A major film adaptation followed in 2011, and then a Netflix series in 2024.
