The new stage adaptation of David Nicholl’s 2009 novel has revealed its complete cast ahead of its opening next month

As the brand new musical adaptation of One Day prepares to open in the West End next month, the production has announced its complete London cast. Based on David Nicholl’s beloved 2009 novel about the complex relationship between two friends-stroke-lovers, the new musical had a preview run at Edinburgh’s Lyceum Theatre, ahead of its upcoming London debut.

Previously announced leads Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose star as Dexter and Emma respectively. They’ll be joined by Dan Buckley as Ian, Dougie Carter as Callum, Anna-Jane Casey as Alison Mayhew, Ross Dawes as Mr Godalming, Christopher Dickins as Stephen Mayhew, Vanessa Fisher in the ensemble, Kelly Hampson as Sylvie, Jennifer Louise Jones as Miffy and Romona Lewis-Malley as Tilly. Understudies Rosalía Morales and Tom Mussell and ensemble member Ewan Murphy complete the adult cast. Jasmine and Sonia are played by Bonnie Harper, Esmae Kevany, Hannah McIntyre and Ava-Rae Timewell.

Set on St Swithin’s Day across multiple years, One Day follows Emma and Dexter from their student years to their adult lives as they figure out what they are to each other. The book was adapted into a film in 2011 and a Netflix series in 2024.

One Day the musical is written by David Greig, with music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez of Johnnyswim, and additional material by Jeremy Sams. The production is directed by Max Webster, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, musical supervision, musical direction and co-arrangement by Nigel Lilley, set and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Bruno Poet, sound design by Simon Baker, video design by Lewis den Hertog, wigs, hair and make-up design by Carole Hancock, orchestrations and co-arrangements Simon Hale, casting direction by Stuart Burt, intimacy direction by Ingrid Mackinnon, voice coaching by Barbara Houseman and production management Chris Hay.
