New musical Redcliffe by Jordan Luke Gage will transfer to the West End next year
Jordan Luke Gage’s Redcliffe is coming to the West End in early 2027 following its debut at the Southwark Playhouse
Jordan Luke Gage’s new musical Redcliffe is set to transfer to the West End next year following its award-winning off-West End world premiere. First presented at the Turbine Theatre as part of MTFestUK in 2024, the show had eight sold-out workshop performances at The Other Palace before its premiere at the Southwark Playhouse this summer.
Set in 18th-century England, Redcliffe is inspired by the love story of William Critchard and visiting sailor Richard Arnold in Redcliffe, Bristol. At this year’s Stage Debut Awards, Gage was recognised with the award for Best Composer, Lyricist or Book Writer for his work on the musical. He is set to reprise his performance as William Critchard for the West End transfer.
Redcliffe will run at the Criterion Theatre for 12 weeks from 28 January 2027.
Gage has previously originated the roles of Romeo in &Juliet and Clyde Barrow in Bonnie & Clyde in the West End. He’s also appeared in West End productions of Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical, Heathers, Titanique and Saving Mozart, among others.
The writer and actor said: “I am beyond thrilled that Redcliffe is transferring to the West End, giving us the chance to share this story with even more people. Our run at Southwark Playhouse was incredibly special, and the response deeply moving. I’m excited to build on that momentum, challenge perspectives, open hearts and spark meaningful conversations. The Criterion Theatre is the perfect home for Redcliffe, allowing us to expand the world we’ve created while preserving the intimacy and sense of community at the heart of the show.”
Redcliffe is directed by Paul Foster, with choreography by Emma Woods, set and lighting design by Andrew Exeter, costume design by Martin Hanly, musical supervision by Katy Richardson, associate musical supervision and orchestrations by Ben Tomalin, additional orchestrations by Ben Ferguson, associate lighting design by Matt Hockley and casting by Will Burton. Further casting is still to be announced.
