The RSC’s incredible, award-winning musical marks its seventh year in the West End next year, and also now boasts productions on Broadway and in Australia. Further to this, a UK and Ireland tour of the show will also begin next year, running in tandem alongside the London show.

Based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly, Matilda the Musical follows the story of Matilda Wormwood; neglected and misunderstood by her family, she soon discovers she has the power to change her destiny.

The London production has now announced who will join the cast in the leading adult roles of Miss Trunchbull, Miss Honey and Matilda’s parents, Mr and Mrs Wormwood.

Gina Beck, last seen in the West End as Magnolia Hawks in Show Boat, leads the charge as Miss Honey. Beck’s other theatre credits include Glinda in Wicked, Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera and Cosette in Les Misérables.

Taking on the role of Miss Trunchbull will be David Shannon, with previous credits including The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, Chris in Miss Saigon and Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.

Tom Edden joins the cast as Mr Wormwood. A Tony and Critic’s Circle nominee, Edden is known for previous roles in One Man, Two Guvnors and Amadeus. He’ll be joined by Marianne Benedict in the role of Mrs Wormwood, who most recently appeared as Grizabella in the UK tour of Cats.

The full adult cast includes Keisha Amponsa Banson, Richard Astbury, David Birch, Maria Graciano, Karina Hind, Peter Houston, Katie Lee, Vicki Lee Taylor, Kris Manuel, Bryan Mottram, Tom Muggeridge, Emma Robotham-Hunt, Simon Shorten, Biancha Szynal, Callum Train and Robert Tregoning. The new children’s cast will be announced in due course.
