Casting announced for London transfer of Life of Pi

Here's who'll be performing in the West End adpation of the Booker Prize-winning novel.

The cast for the forthcoming London transfer of Life of Pi has been announced.

The West End production is set to open at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre on Sunday 28 June 2020 and is currently booking until Sunday 4 October 2020.

Sri Lankan born actor Hiran Abeysekera will reprise the role of Pi in the forthcoming transfer, after originating the role in the show’s run at the Sheffield Crucible.

Abeysekera’s other credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the BBC and Find Me In Paris for Hulu.

Joining Hiran in the cast of Life of Pi are Raj Ghatak, Mina Anwar, Alex Chang, Fred Davis, Sagar Arya, Tom Espiner, Kirsten Foster, Daisy Franks, Sarah Kameela Impey, Tom Larkin, Deeivya Meir, Nuwan Hugh Perera, David KS Tse, Romina Hytten, Habib Nasib Nader and Scarlet Wilderink.

Based on Yann Martel’s Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, Life of Pi tells the story of sixteen-year-old Pi, who after the cargo ship he is sailing on sinks is left stranded on a lifeboat alongside a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a royal bengal tiger.

Many will know the story of Life of Pi from the 2012 film adaptation directed by Ang Lee. A box office smash, the film grossed over $600 million globally and received 11 nominations at the 2013 Academy Awards.

This stage production of the Life of Pi debuted at the Sheffield Crucible in June 2019.

The production has received universal praise from critics, with The Guardian describing it as “An extraordinary journey. Unmissable”, and The Sunday Times adding: “It will make you believe in theatre. A triumph”.

The Sheffield production also took home four UK Theatre Awards for Best Actor, Best Design, Best Director and Best New Play.
