Kids Week 2014 breaks all previous records

Kids Week, the hugely popular campaign that sees children getting into theatre for free, has had its most successful year yet having sold a staggering 176,000 tickets.

Now in its 17th year, the month-long festival of family theatregoing came to an end on 31 August following an incredible line-up of top West End shows, exclusive events and workshops that enabled children aged 16 and younger to experience the magic of the theatre both on stage and behind the scenes.

Speaking about Kids Week’s hugely successful year, SOLT’s President Caro Newling said: “We are delighted that Kids Week has now become a firmly established annual event for family audiences, many of whom, via the campaign, are experiencing the magic of theatre for the very first time.

“This year, with access to 40 productions covering a huge variety of theatre experiences, the demand has been extraordinary. 2014 has proved to be another record-breaking year with a staggering 64% increase on 2013’s sales.”

This year’s Kids Week got off to an amazing start back in June when the first 24 hours of ticket sales saw a record-breaking 85,336 tickets sold.

Our Managing Director, Simon Presswell also said “The popularity of the scheme is astonishing with 2014 becoming the best year for ticket sales in the promotion’s history. We are so proud to be involved in such a great opportunity, giving thousands of children from across the country the chance to get into theatre.”

Organised by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), every August Kids Week offers families a free children’s ticket with every adult ticket purchased to participating shows, plus up to another two children’s tickets half price. We support it by making sure there are no booking or postage fees attached.
