ICYMI: West End hit Wicked extends until May 2018

Currently celebrating its tenth year in Theatreland, smash hit Wicked will continue until at least May 2018, with a new booking period now on sale.

Now the 17th longest-running show in London’s theatre history, Wicked tells the story of the Witches of Oz, and an unlikely friendship between two sorcery students who grow up to become Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Revered as a modern classic of West End theatre, the show will shortly welcome its 8 millionth theatregoer at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London, and around the world, the show has now been seen by over 50 million people in 15 countries and won over 100 major awards.

A new era of the show is about to kick off too, with a several new cast members joining London’s ranks at the end of the month. From 30 January 2017, Wicked will star Willemijn Verkaik as Elphaba, Suzie Mathers as Glinda, Oliver Savile as Fiyero, Sue Kelvin as Madame Morrible and Mark Curry as The Wizard. Completing the line-up will be Martin Ball as Doctor Dillamond, Sarah McNicholas as Nessarose and Idriss Kargbo as Boq.

The show has music and lyrics by multi Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz (Godspell and Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted) and is based on the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. It was adapted for the stage by Winnie Holzman and first opened on Broadway in 2003.

In addition to the extension, Wicked has also announced a new UK tour for 2018 with further casting to be announced.
