Thursday 8 March 2018 marks the start of UN Women’s HeForShe Arts Week, the global festival for gender equality which begins on International Women’s Day.

To mark the occasion, the Tate Modern and Tate Britain will be illuminated in bright magenta. The lights will be visible across large areas of the city from dusk until late into the night.

HeForShe will see UN Women work with artists to curate over 52 groundbreaking performances, discussion and exhibitions across London. All aim to change the narrative to promote gender equality.

All activities will challenge stories, create a new narrative, change mind-sets, and raise funds to change the reality for millions of women. HeForShe Arts Week will host discussion, debate, dance, music, theatre, exhibitions and experience.

The programme will open with an exclusive preview by Susan Sarandon of Bombshell: The Hedy Lamaar Story. Other notable supporters include Robert Webb, Munroe Bergdoft and Darren Harriott. Participating venues include The British Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Vaults Theatre and Oval Space.

Funds raised from tickets will support UN Women’s vital, ongoing work.

“As children, we are told the stories that shape our beliefs and the societies we live in,” says Chair of UN Women National Committee UK, Laura Haynes. “Artists perform, writers write, dancers dance and musicians play and engage us in a narrative that directs our behaviour.”

HeForShe Arts Week runs from the 8 March 2018 until the 14 March 2018.
