Cast announced for Fame The Musical

It arrives in Blackpool in August as part of a UK tour.

Fame The Musical will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a UK tour, reaching the Opera House Blackpool from Monday 13 August until Saturday 18 August 2018.

Based on the iconic film Fame, the internationally renowned music follows the lives of students at New York’s High School For The Performing Arts. The characters explore the highs and lows of coming-of-age, including romance and heartbreak.

The story explores contemporary issues such as prejudice, identity, pride and sexuality, through the eyes of characters Carmen Diaz, Tyrone Jackson, Mabel Washington and more.

The production will star Keith Jack as Nick Piazza, Mica Paris as Miss Sherman, and Jorgie Porter as Iris Kelly.

Jack is best known as the runner-up on BBC1’s Any Dream Will Do, having starred in the UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Only The Brave at Edinburgh Festival and much more.

“I am really looking forward to performing the role of Nick in the UK Tour of Fame and I’m excited about working with Selladoor again,” he announced.

Mica Paris celebrates worldwide top 10 singles and albums across her thirty year career. Her stage credits include Mama I Want To Sing, The Vagina Monologues and Sweet Lorraine in the West End.

Porter, playing iris Kelly, is best known as Theresa McQueen in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. She has also appeared in Dancing On Ice, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, and more.

Fame The Musical has seven West End runs under its belt, having opened in Broadway in 1988, and continues as one of the best loved musicals across the globe.

The cast for the UK theatre tour are yet to be revealed, with director and choreographer Nick Winston and designer Morgan Large on board. Fame will be presented by Selladoor Worldwide, who have produced the likes of Footloose, Avenue Q, Little Shop Of Horrors and Flashdance The Musical.

“This new tour for 2018 celebrates the 30 years since the premiere of the Broadway production and will very much have its roots in the style and nostalgia of the original musical, ” says Sellador Executive Creative Director David Hutchinson. “Selladoor are dedicated to bringing large scale theatre to as broad an audience as possible across the UK and internationally, and we’re delighted to add another classic musical to our ever-growing portfolio.”

The production features the Oscar-winning title song alongside the likes of Hard Work, Think Of Meryl Streep, including equally iconic lyrics, performed by a cast of outstanding dancers, singers, musicians.

 

Fame The Musical reaches the Opera House Blackpool from Monday 13 August until Saturday 18 August 2018.
