The musical will play at London’s Garrick Theatre for a limited season, with previews starting from Thursday 5 March 2020 and will reunite the production’s original creative team including director Josie Rourke.

Nicola comments: “I am delighted that Josie and the production have chosen me to be Mallory for City of Angels. To make my acting debut in this show and to work with such a fantastic company of actors and Josie Rourke is a dream come true for me”.

Roberts first found huge fame as one-fifth of the hugely successful pop group Girls Aloud, who enjoyed no less than 21 top-10 UK singles before their split in 2013. Post Girls Aloud, Nicola released her debut solo album Cinderella Eyes to critical acclaim and has gone on to write songs for numerous artists worldwide.

A musical love letter to the glamorous world of old Hollywood and film noir, City Of Angels synopsis reads:

A screenwriter with a movie to finish.
A private eye with a case to crack.
But nothing’s black and white when a dame is involved.
And does anyone stick to the script in this city?
This is Tinseltown. You gotta ask yourself: what’s real…and what’s reel…

The forthcoming West End production is set to star original Donmar Warehouse cast members Hadley Fraser (Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera) as Stine, Rosalie Craig (Company, The Ferryman) as Gabbi/Bobbi and Rebecca Trehearn (Showboat, We Will Rock You) as Donna/Oolie.

US recording artist Vanessa Williams will make her West End debut in the production in the role of Carla/Alaura.

City Of Angels’ cast also includes Marc Elliott as Panchos/Munoz, Nick Cavaliere as Sonny, Adam Fogarty as Big Six, Mark Penfold as Luther Kingsley, Rob Houchen as Jimmy/Dr Mandril, Joshua St Clair as Peter Kingsley and Cindy Bellot, Sadie-Jean Shirley, Manuel Pacific and Ryan Reid as the Angel City 4.

Josie Rourke’s revival of City Of Angels first arrived in 2014 to rave reviews and multiple Olivier Award nominations. The musical features a score by Cy Coleman and David Zippel, and book by Larry Gelbart.

Five years since its original showing, City Of Angels will return to London for a limited season at the Garrick Theatre from Thursday 5 March until Saturday 5 September 2020.
