Similarly to Disney’s The Jungle Book, the remake of the 1994 box office smash The Lion King will see the stars voicing photorealistic computer generated versions of the original animals.
The new film, due for release in July 2019, arrives as the musical continues to grow from strength to strength in both the West End and on Broadway. Directed by Julie Taymor, the theatrical production of Disney’s The Lion King is currently running at London’s Lyceum Theatre.
The musical, set against the backdrop of the Serengeti Plains, follows the story of Simba as he works towards his destiny of becoming king of the Pridelands.
The visually stunning production celebrates two Olivier Awards, as well as five Tony Awards including Best Direction of a Musical and Best Choreography.
To catch the musical at London’s Lyceum Theatre, Disney’s The Lion King tickets are available now through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
