All About Eve is coming to the West End
Get your first look at the new production starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James.
Gillian Anderson and Lily James will star in a limited run of All About Eve, an adaptation of the Academy Award-winning film, when it comes to the West End this month.
The brand new play is directed by Olivier and Tony Award winner Ivo van Hove, and makes its world premiere in London ahead of a 14-week run at the Noel Coward Theatre.
All Above Eve is based on the film of the same name, itself based on Mary Orr’s original play The Wisdom Of Eve. The 1950 film is the only one in history to receive four female acting nominations at the Oscars.
The stage adaptation will welcome Gillian Anderson, Lily James, Monica Dolan, Sheila Reid and Rhashan Stone, and the production has now released a number of new production shots showing the play’s stars in action.
The new images come as the All About Even confirms news that an extra, limited number of tickets at £25.00 (plus fees) will be released from 13:00 today.
Anderson, who became a household name starring as Dana Scully in the long-running The X-Files series, will take on the role of Margo Channing, a legendary Broadway star who becomes threatened by the rapidly rising Eve, played by Lily James – star of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Downton Abbey.
All Above Eve, including the famous line “fasten your seat belts. It’s going to be a bumpy night”, promises a razor-sharp, unsettling expose of the eternal obsession at the heart of show-business.
The two leading ladies will be joined by BAFTA Award-winner Monica Dolan as Karen, Sheila Reid as Birdie and Rhashan Stone as Lloyd. Further casting is expected to be announced in the near future.
Anderson has a Emmy, Golden Globe and two Screen Actors’ Guild awards to her name, all for her time as Dana Scully in The X-Files. Recent stage credits include playing Blanche DuBois in the Young Vic production of A Streetcar Named Desire. She received an Olivier Award nomination for her performance, as well as taking home the Best Actress gong at the Evening Standard Awards.
Lily James most recently starred alongside Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Her stage credits include Juliet in Kenneth Branagh’s Romeo and Juliet at the Garrick Theatre.
Director Ivo van Hove has been celebrated for his stage work, including bringing Network starring Bryan Cranston, and A View From The Bridge to the West End and Broadway.
His creative team includes double Mercury Prize winner PJ Harvey handling music.
All About Eve opens at London’s Noel Coward Theatre on 2 February 2019, running for a strictly limited fourteen weeks. Tickets, including a limited number of £25 tickets released today, are on sale now. Get yours through Ticketmaster.co.uk.
