What is Madame Tussauds?

History

First opening its doors in 1835, Madame Tussauds was created by renowned French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud. Her career began in Paris, under the tutelage of doctor and wax artist Philippe Curtius, where she showed an aptitude for wax modelling. She created her first wax figure in 1777 of Voltaire, and went on to create more wax portraiture of many celebrities of the era such as Benjamin Franklin and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Marie Tussaud first moved to London in 1802 to take her exhibition of wax figures on tour, and established her permanent exhibition in Baker Street Bazaar in 1835. Tussaud created a self-portrait wax figure in 1842, which is on display at the entrance of Madame Tussauds London today.

Present Day

Now under the ownership of Merlin Entertainments – who own attractions such as Alton Towers and Thorpe Park – Madame Tussauds is one of the world’s biggest tourist attractions, with locations in Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. Each location has different zones, including Hollywood, Chamber of Horrors or Illusions of Horror, Award Shows, Country Western and Sports. Additonally, every location has a different set of figures and immersive sets, so you can enjoy a completely new experience from city to city.

London

At the London location for Madame Tussauds, these are the different zones where you can see a myriad of stars and historical figures.

Awards Party – This experiential zone allows visitors to live out their Grammy and Oscar dreams. You can walk the red carpet, give an acceptance speech on the main stage, and see what an A-list party is really like. The wax models in the Awards Party include Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Ranveer Singh and more.
The Fashion Runway – Give your best Kate Moss impression on the Madame Tussauds Fashion Runway. Strike a pose, grab a drink at the Coca-Cola bar and take pictures with your favourite fashion icons. Stars you can see in this zone include Rihanna, RuPaul, Kendall Jenner and more.
Baker Street Studios – Lights, Camera, Action! The brand-new film zone at Madame Tussauds London allows fans to enjoy the WHOniverse, have marmalade sandwiches with Paddington Bear, and solve mysteries with Enola Holmes. Please see recreated film sets from E.T, Bollywood classics and more.

The Royal Palace – If the queues to tour Buckingham Palace are too long for you, the Royal Palace at Madame Tussauds London is the perfect alternative. London

Jumanji 4D – Included with all entry tickets, The Jumanji 4D Safari Tours takes guests on a wild adventure, filled with fantastical animals, thrilling action and inimitable 4D effects.
Chamber of Horrors – A Marie Tussaud tradition dating back to 1818, the Chamber of Horrors takes visitors on a journey through “shocking real crimes which affected real lives“. From the Kray Twins to Jack the Ripper, see some of the most well-known horror stories up close.
Spirit of London Ride – This experience takes visitors through moments that defined London’s history, from The Great Fire of London to the invention of the black cab to all the major cultural moments taking place on Carnaby Street during the swinging 60s.
Champagne Bar Experience – While Madame Tussauds allows everyone to be a VIP with the most famous VIPs, the Champagne Bar Experience turns it up to 11. At the 1835 Champagne Bar, you can enjoy a complimentary drink with fast-track entry, a viewing of exclusive displays and a glamorous photo-booth.
Wax Hand Experience – This is your chance to make your own mark at Madame Tussauds, and leave with your own wax hand. Choose your pose, dip your hand in the wax and create a timeless keepsake.

Ticket types and costs

There are two types of tickets for Madame Tussauds:

Standard ticket – Guests can book a standard ticket, which costs £27 per adult and £24 per child (aged 2-15) online. Carers and children under the age of two can enter for free. Walk-up prices of standard tickets start from £39.
Flexi fast track ticket – Guests can book a Flexi fast track ticket, which costs £41 per adult and £38 per adult child (aged 2-15) online. Carers and children under the age of two can enter for free. Flexi fast track tickets give guests any-time access on their chosen day, plus fast track entry and access to all zones.

Extras

Guests can also upgrade their tickets to include extras including the London Eye, SEA LIFE Aquariums, and the 1835 Champagne Bar experience.

Food and drink options

While Madame Tussauds does not have a sit-down restaurant on site, there are grab and go kiosks where guests can enjoy chilled drinks and snacks. Additionally, there’s a Chocolate Fondue station at the London location and the Rovers pub is fully functional in the Blackpool location. Guests who book afternoon tea will also enjoy an afternoon tea spread with their Madame Tussauds experience.

Is Madame Tussauds accessible?

Yes it is! Visitors who require accessible access can book an adult ticket with a free carer ticket, and also choose a time slot ahead of their visit to ensure their time at Madame Tussauds is as smooth as possible. Visitors with reduced mobility can be assured that the building is designed to be fully accessible, plus, all assistance dogs are allowed into the attraction. For safety reasons, Madame Tussauds can only accept three wheelchair users in the building at the same time, and cannot to make on the day bookings for wheelchair slots.

Getting to Madame Tussauds

By car

Madame Tussauds London is located on Marylebone Road, London, NW1 5LR. To get there by car, guests can join Marylebone Road via the A40 and Euston Road, which passes by Kings Cross station. There are no parking spots onsite, but there are parking slots around the area. You can find carparks here.

Madame Tussauds Blackpool is located on 89 Promenade, Blackpool, Lancashire, FY1 5AA. To get there by car, guests can access Central Car Park, which is the closest car park to the attraction. There are also Disabled Parking bays in Central Car Park for guests who require accessible parking.

By bus

Madame Tussauds London is accessible via the following bus routes: 13, 18, 27, 74, 113, 139, 189, 205, 274 and 453. All these bus routes have stops that are a five-minute walk from the attraction. There is also a Coach Drop Off and Pick Up stop on Marylebone Road just outside Madame Tussauds London.

Most Blackpool buses stop near Madame Tussauds or the Town Centre, which is a short walk from the attraction. You can plan your journey here.

By train

The closest train station to Madame Tussauds London is Marylebone Station, which is on the Bakerloo line as well as national rail, and is a 10-minute walk away. The closest tube station is Baker Street tube station, which is a two-minute walk away from the site.
