Women’s Rugby World Cup announces Anne-Marie as musical guest for opening game in Sunderland

The tournament will begin on 22 August at the Stadium of Light as England play the USA

With just over a month to go until the Women’s Rugby World Cup begins, it’s already looking to be the biggest one yet. Ticket sales have already doubled compared to the 2022 New Zealand tournament, and pop star Anne-Marie has been confirmed to headline the opening game.

England will take on the USA in the first game of the tournament at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on 22 August.

“I’m so excited to perform at the Opening Show presented by O2 and be part of this massive moment for women’s sport,” said Anne-Marie. “Now that I’ve got a daughter of my own, it means even more to be involved in something that shows the next generation that they can do anything. I know Sunderland is going to be going crazy, and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

The show will kick off six weeks of international rugby, played in stadiums all around the country, with sixteen teams battling it out. The final will be played on 27 September at London’s Allianz Stadium.
