The official trailer for Wicked: For Good has been released
The second installment of the film adaptation of Wicked will release in cinemas on 21 November
The trailer for Wicked: For Good, the second and final installment in the screen adaptation of Wicked the musical, has been released. The film will hit cinemas in the UK on 21 November, a year after the first installment was released.
The film is based on the 2003 stage musical by Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz, which in turn was based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The first film received ten nominations at the Academy Awards, winning two. Both films star Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, with Jonathon Bailey, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum in the supporting cast.
Wicked the musical is still running in London at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. It’s the 10th longest running show in West End history and has been seen by over 13 million people. You can find tickets to see it before the film comes out here.
The trailer shows Elphaba in hiding from the Wizard’s regime and her friendship with Glinda kept secret. Snippets of Erivo singing ‘No Good Deed’ and duetting Grande on the titular ‘For Good’ can be heard.
