Shawn Mendes covers Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing In The Dark’

The singer emulates Springsteen in Tommy Hilfiger’s Classics Reborn campaign

Back in 2018, the internet collectively lost its cool when Shawn Mendes came onstage to perform at the MTV VMAs, looking the spit of 80s Springsteen in a white t-shirt and navy trousers. Now, the singer is once again channeling his inner Bruce.

In a new campaign for Tommy Hilfiger, Mendes covers Springsteen’s ‘Dancing In The Dark’ from a Texan warehouse whilst modelling a variety of collared shirts. The track originally comes from Springsteen’s 1984 album Born In The U.S.A. In its music video, Springsteen famously invites a young woman up from the audience to dance with him onstage, played by Courteney Cox.

Classics Reborn with Shawn Mendes

Springsteen has long had an influence of Mendes’ career – in 2018, his manager Andrew Gertler explained to Rolling Stone that he wanted their partnership to resemble that of Springsteen and his manager.

“When I started talking to Shawn, one of the first things I said was, ‘You have to go build something for yourself,’” he said. “I look at the relationship Jon Landau had with Bruce Springsteen. Can we tour for 40-plus years?”
