Questlove to direct a remake of Disney’s Aristocats

The musician will be helming a live action version of the beloved animated film

“They chose I to chase the cat…” wrote Questlove on Instagram this week. The musician has been tapped to helm Disney’s latest live action venture: a new adaptation of 1970’s Aristocats, about a family of aristocratic cats learning to mix with the jazz-playing alley cats of Paris.

Questlove made his directorial debut in 2021 with documentary film Summer Of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised). The film would go on to win Best Documentary Feature at the 2022 Oscars. This will be his first feature film.

“I basically have 2 life goals,” the musician continued on Instagram “1. Don’t dismiss my dreams & 2. Get out of my own way.”

The original Aristocats features music from the Sherman brothers, including the beloved title song. For the remake, Questlove will be handling the music, whilst Will Gluck (Peter Rabbit) and Keith Bunan (Onward) will write the script. And, as Thomas O’Malley rightly says, “Everybody wants to be a cat, because a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at…”
