Queen’s Greatest Hits is officially the best-selling UK album of all time

Queen are king of the comps with 7 million copies sold since 1981


A staggering 1 in 4 households are said to own Queen’s Greatest Hits compilation album, as the record tops the list of UK all-time bestsellers. With 7 million sales, the album has broken records in the UK, beating the runner-up, ABBA’s Gold, by a million copies.

The inclusion of streaming figures has had an affect on the numbers, with a thousand streams now counted as one sale. Queen have amassed 1.26 billion streams in the UK, gaining a million sales in the last eight years alone. They’ve even managed to appear on the list twice, with Greatest Hits II taking the number ten slot.

“The British public and their infinitely-great taste have made this the biggest-selling album in history,” said drummer Roger Taylor. “Thank you very much; we’re humbled and honoured. We salute you!” Guitarist Brian May stressed to the general public how much the band appreciate their ongoing support.
