Peter Kay to open Manchester’s new Co-op Live arena
The beloved comedian will be the first act to play the UK’s largest live entertainment arena this April
Co-op Live, the brand-new live entertainment venue and now the UK’s largest of its kind, opens this 23 April with a visit from Peter Kay. The comedian, who continues his hugely successful live tour this year, will be the first performer to take to the Co-op Live stage in front of a crowd of 23,500 for a historic night of comedy.
Executive Director and General Manager of Co-op Live Gary Roden says: “When you think of Manchester, it’s hard not to think of Peter Kay. He embodies what this city is about, and to have him headlining Co-op Live is tremendously exciting. We’re creating an arena that is truly part of the community around it, and having Peter as our opening act is a perfect.”
Co-op Live is said to have been designed with the ultimate fan experience in mind, its unique bowl shape allowing for a more intimate live experience with some of the world’s biggest artists. The venue also aims to become Europe’s most sustainable arena. Co-op Live will be 100% electric, make use of rainwater recycling technology, and operate with reusable cups to significantly reduce plastic usage.
The venue has also pledged to generate at least £1 million annually for the Co-op Foundation through their ‘Gigs that Give Back’ initiative, allowing them to give back on both a local and national scale.
Co-op members will be able to access a dedicated pre-sale for Peter Kay’s Co-op Live performance. Pre-sale access will open 21 February, with general sale following on 23 February.
