Little Simz wins 2022 Mercury Prize

Simbi's Sometimes I Am Introvert wins this year's coveted music award

Little Simz, aka Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, has won this year’s Mercury Prize with FREE NOW for her fourth album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. The award was handed to her tonight at the Eventim Apollo in West London, hosted again by Lauren Laverne.

Sometimes I Might Be Introvert was released in September 2021, and was called “The sound of Simz reconciling with Simbi” by Pitchfork, a “rich, fascinating album” by The Guardian and an “authentic journey of self-discovery” by XXL.

As well as the prestigious award, which has been going since 1992, Simbi was rewarded £25,000. The 28-year-old beat the likes of Self Esteem, Kojey Radical, Joy Crookes, Yard Act and Wet Leg to the title, all of whom and others performed alongside her at the awards.
