Kendrick Lamar cleans up at 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards
The rapper won six awards, including Best Hip Hop Video and Hip Hop Album of the Year
The 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards ceremony was aired last night, and saw Kendrick Lamar take home six awards. The Compton rapper won: Best Hip Hop Album of the Year for Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers; Best Hip Hop Video for ‘Family Ties‘; Best Live Performer; Lyricist of the Year; Video Director of the Year; and Hip Hop Artist of the Year, beating the likes of Doja Cat, Kanye West, Future and Drake.
Drake did win three awards himself though, taking home Best Collaboration and a tied Best Featured Verse for both ‘Wait For You’ (with Future and Tems) and ‘Churchill Downs’ (with Jack Harlow). Lizzo also won Best Impact Track for ‘About Damn Time‘. Despite 10 nominations, Kanye West did not win a BET Hip Hop Award this year.
The awards show, a spin-off of the BET Awards, also paid tribute to the 30th anniversary of Loud Records, famous for bringing acts such as Wu-Tang Clan, Dead Prez and Mobb Deep to light — all of whom featured in a medley celebrating the label.
